So, I open my dA after a few days and this is what I see...

1) SPAM messages carrying a virus!

Hey. check out this funny blog!! LOL [CLICK HERE]

or...

Hey. I think i saw your picture on this website/blog here [CLICK HERE]

Or basically any comment thing that says "CLICK HERE"

FTW?! is going on here? Seriously, dA has been invaded by a virus? O_O
This isn't the first time I encountered these "spam" messages. I get a lot of spam in friendster and facebook. Actually, I think it got in to my facebook account for some fuckin' reason...(i think I forgot to log out of my facebook while I was at school =__= ) and I had to change my password twice!

And now it's here in dA! Unbelievable what other people would do!!


2) DA's tracing policy

Before I read journals and the actual Article I was like, "oh, of course dA doesn't allow tracing..." But when I read the article I couldn't believe what I was reading...

"Tracing helps beginners understand how it feels to reproduce, for example, anatomy."

ftw?!

I have nothing against referencing though. Because I admit I use reference photos when I draw... _{I used a reference photo of an asian popstar for my latest drawing since its my first time drawing a half-body and a male at that. Though I tried tracing...when I was 9 years old when I was still learning to draw...and it doesn't come out really nice at all!}

But simply tracing art is definitely unacceptable. Heck, while your at it why not just copy-paste the whole artwork and claim it as your own, save for a change of color??!!
You learn nothing from tracing. You don't develop your own skill instead you rely on other people's skill. Yes, sometimes other artists do this...when they're on deadlines for comics, graphic arts, etc.

I heard there were people who used to/still trace??? I hope this ain't true...

And, oh, about fanarts. Nothing wrong with it. It's just like doujins, right? Its not a trace of the original character but a drawing made by the fan/s. The rights still belong to the original artist.
